Ductless Mini-Split Systems
The Right System for the Spaces Your Central Unit Can’t Reach
Mini-splits aren’t a workaround — they’re the right tool for specific situations. A garage conversion, a sunroom addition, a home office over the garage, a primary bedroom that’s never quite right. These are spaces where extending ductwork is impractical, expensive, or simply not worth it. A mini-split system conditions the space directly, without ductwork, and does it more efficiently than a central system that was never designed to serve that zone.

The Right Fit
Where Mini-Splits Make Sense in Houston Homes
Mini-splits aren’t the right answer for every situation — but for these three, they’re usually the best one.
Room Additions and Conversions
Garage conversions, sunrooms, and additions are the most common mini-split application. Extending your existing duct system to serve a new space is often impractical and expensive — a mini-split conditions the space independently without touching the central system.
Zones That Are Never Comfortable
If one part of your home runs consistently warmer or cooler than the rest regardless of thermostat settings, the issue is usually duct design or distribution. A mini-split can condition that zone independently while you address the underlying problem separately.
Spaces with No Duct Access
Historic homes, detached guest quarters, workshops, and home offices in structures that weren’t built with HVAC in mind are natural mini-split candidates. No ductwork required means no major construction.

The System
Two Components. No Ductwork. Direct Comfort.
A mini-split system has two parts: an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and one or more indoor air handling units mounted on the wall or ceiling of the space being conditioned. A refrigerant line connects them — that’s it.
- No ducts running through your attic
- No conditioned air lost in transit
- No pressure imbalances affecting other rooms
- Independent temperature control for each zone
Multi-zone systems can connect multiple indoor units to a single outdoor compressor, giving you independent control across several spaces without multiple outdoor installations.
The Numbers
High Efficiency Where Houston Needs It Most
Mini-split systems are among the most efficient HVAC equipment available. Modern units carry SEER ratings above 20 for cooling and HSPF ratings above 10 for heating — significantly more efficient than most central systems, particularly older ones.
In Houston, where the cooling season runs nearly ten months and every efficiency point translates directly to monthly operating cost, that matters. Mini-splits eliminate two of the biggest sources of energy loss in a central system: duct leakage and heat transfer through attic ductwork. When you condition a room with a mini-split, the energy you pay for arrives in that room.
Not Sure if It’s the Right Fit?
We’ll Assess the Space and Tell You Honestly.
Mini-splits solve specific problems well. They’re not the right answer for every situation, and we won’t recommend one if it isn’t. Before we spec anything, we look at the space, the existing system, and how the building is actually being used. If a mini-split is the right fit, we’ll size it correctly for Houston’s climate and install it properly. If something else would serve you better, we’ll tell you that too.
Either way, you’ll leave the conversation knowing exactly what your options are and why.
